Rediscovering the Wonders of the Toyota Prius Hybrid Vehicle

Motor Trends Automobile of the Year for 2004, North American Automobile of the Year in 2004, 2004 International Engine of the Year, 2005 European Car of the Year, 2006 Energuide Award in the Midsize segment, this and more are the accolades given to the Toyota Prius Hybrid Vehicle. Undoubtedly one of the most popular and most regarded competitor in the ever growing hybrid automobile segment, the Toyota Prius has definitely made a marked in the motor industry.

The Toyota Prius is a Hybrid vehicle that makes a bold statement against environmental issues and the rising gas prices. It is also the first ever mass-produced hybrid automobile for commercial purposes. Its name itself means first.

The Toyota Prius hybrid car was first sold in Japan in 1997 before it was distributed all over the globe 4 years later in 2001. Its popularity was boosted by environmentalists touting it as the vehicle for the future to save our planet from air pollution. Sales in North America ws strong and increasing annually. By fall of 2006, the Toyota Prius hybrid car had the strongest demand and has the longest preorder and waiting list there is presently.

Toyota sees the Prius as a venue that would provide the consumers with a vehicle that would produce less pollution and to be very energy efficient. And Toyota certainly reached that goal. They created the Prius from the bottom up resulting to a true hybrid vehicle that's loved worldwide.

Toyota engineers came up with a couple of ways to develop the Toyota Prius hybrid automobile to be unlike other previous concept electric vehicles, the Prius doesn't ever need to be plugged in for recharging. The two electric motor generators get its power from the gas engine, recharging while the engine power is being used. Also, through regenerative braking, a process that recovers kinetic energy when the automobile brakes and transforming it to electrical energy to recharge the batteries.

By 2004 a second generation of Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle was released on the market. Capitalizing on the development of the new Hybrid Synbergy Drive technology, the previous Toyota Hybrid System was replaced in the new generation Toyota Hybrids. Many improvements were developed and infused in the technology making the Toyota Prius hybrid car even superior than before.

Aside from the engine, Toyota added more room to the Toyota Prius hybrid automobile making it wider and taller allowing for taller people to sit erect inside the car and allowing more views of the road.

Because of the success brought by the Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle and the public awareness it has developed, Toyota has extended its Hybrid lineup to their other cars. This includes the Toyota Camry hybrid and their top of the line Lexus marquee with the Lexus RX400H.

Truly, the Toyota Prius hybrid car has gone a long way. Its engineering superiority and its excellent reputation has made it a great choice for many people. Even a lot of notable famous people have purchased themselves a Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle to show their support to environmental awareness.

Toyota has definitely hit the nail in the head with the Toyota Prius hybrid automobile and we have the ability to anticipate to see more of this technology in the future. With Toyota's dedication to this endeavor, we have the ability to be sure that we have the ability to finally cut down on gas consumption and save our planet.

Many people are now getting frustrated with their usual gas-guzzling conventional car because of the constant increase in fuel prices. Because of this, more and more people are looking for alternative modes of travel. Some people with cars are now leaving it on the garage and walks from home to work nearly everyday to conserve fuel and some are taking the subways, and other transportation services that exist in order to save money.

However, there are some people who simply just need their automobile for their work. Because of this, many of this people are now considering selling their old conventional gas-guzzling vehicles and buy a new kind of automobile that can cut fuel consumption by half. These new line of vehicles are called hybrid cars. Just envision, you can effectively go more than 60 miles per gallon with hybrid vehicles.

Also, hybrid cars produce fewer pollutants than conventional cars. This means that not only will you cut fuel consumption by more than half, but you will also decrease the level of pollution that is poisoning the environment and people. With hybrid cars, everyone can benefit from it.

Now that you know about hybrid vehicles and is now considering to get one for your own, you now want to know how it works. You also want to know how it can relatively cut fuel consumption by half and you also want to know why it emits fewer pollutants than conventional automobiles.

First of all, you have to consider that hybrid vehicles can be quite expensive. However, when you calculate the overall cost that you'll spend on gasoline during the lifetime of the hybrid vehicle and the conventional automobile, you will see that you will spend more money on conventional cars of the same weight class as the hybrid vehicle with a higher retail price included and taxes.

Hybrid automobile buyers also enjoy tax incentives imposed by the government. So, when you buy hybrid vehicles, you'll enjoy tax breaks. Therefore, you will save more money.

The concept of the hybrid car is quite simple. Hybrid automobiles combine electricity, which is the cleanest energy source available, and internal combustion gasoline engine to run the vehicle.

In simple words, hybrid automobiles utilize both electricity and gasoline energy to power the car. First of all, the hybrid car works when once you start the vehicle and is in idle mode or not running, the gasoline engine is automatically shut off. This means that the car is purely running on electricity. This will explain why hybrid cars are very quiet. This will also explain why it can effectively conserve fuel consumption. Once you step on the accelerator, the internal combustion engine will automatically begin up again. There are also hybrid cars that can run purely on electric mode. This is very useful if you are only using the automobile for local travels. You virtually do not even need to put gasoline in the vehicle.

However, in this type of hybrid automobile, you have to take into account putting gasoline for long travels. You can even state that the gasoline will be used for back up power in case the battery is discharged. Most hybrid automobiles developed today do not need to be plugged in like the electric automobile. The used kinetic energy when you're braking will be the one to recharge the battery.

This is how easy a hybrid car works. It will be comprised of a battery for energy storage, a generator, an internal combustion engine, a fuel tank, and an electric motor.

Now that you know how hybrid cars work, you now see how beneficial it can be if you are driving one. You will not only save a lot of money from fuel consumption, but you'll also help save the environment by emitting far lower toxic fumes than conventional cars.

Hybrid Cars: What is All The Fuss About?

It is a fact that people simply adores hybrid cars. They love hybrid cars because of the benefits it can give them, t6o the other people and the environment. So, what is it about hybrid vehicles that it is now attracting more and more people to get one for their own?

First of all, if you have a hybrid car, you will be able to cut fuel consumption in half. When was the last time you pulled your vehicle over to a pumping station? If you recently did, you'll notice that the price of gasoline is on a constant rise. When compared to conventional cars, hybrid vehicles will enable you to cut fuel consumption in half. This means fewer trips to the gasoline station. Just envision yourself driving a vehicle that can travel more than 60 miles per gallon. This might sound good enough for you to get a hybrid automobile, but there are more benefits that you can get from hybrid cars.

Back in 2005, President George Bush has signed an agreement that lets the buyers and users of hybrid automobile enjoy massive tax breaks. Because of this, you will be able to save money on taxes. Another great benefit that you can get when you have a hybrid automobiles are free parking, and some says have imposed a law that hybrid vehicles should be discounted on toll gates.

Hybrid automobiles are also known to emit far lower levels of pollutants in the air. This means less air pollution. This will also mean that it will tend to reduce the effects of global warming and will enable you and other people to breathe cleaner air.

These are just some of the things that hybrid automobiles can give you. You'll now ask what kind of technology is inside hybrid vehicles that makes it so fuel efficient and environmentally friendly.

Hybrid vehicles are integrated with the hybrid technology currently existing today. In fact, hybrid technology has existed for a long time. It is used on locomotives, it is used on submarines and it is used in some buses in some says and countries.

Hybrid technology is a combination of electricity and the standard engine. For example, in locomotives, it combines the diesel engine and electric engine, and in submarines, it combines the nuclear engine and electric engine. This is far more efficient than letting the conventional engine run on its own.

In hybrid automobiles, it combines the energy of gasoline engines and an electric motor to power the vehicle. This means that with both engines running, it will lessen the load on the internal combustion engine. The electric motor will share the labor. With this technology it will grant you to save precious fuel and also let you emit far lower volumes of toxic fumes in the air.

For example, if your hybrid automobile is running idle, it will automatically switch off the gasoline engine and let the vehicle run on pure electricity. This can save you a lot of fuel especially if you're stuck in a gridlock traffic jam.

Today, there are hybrid vehicles that are designed to run even when the gasoline engine is switched off. This kind of hybrid automobile will eventually get rid of gasoline station trips. And, it will let you travel without emitting toxic fumes. The gasoline engine will only act as a backup engine when the battery pack runs out of power. The braking and the engine will automatically recharge the battery pack preparing it for another purely electric run. This means that you don't actually have to plug in your hybrid car to your electrical outlet for it to recharge.

So, if you need a vehicle that runs cleaner, quieter and far more fuel efficient, you should consider getting a hybrid automobile.

Ford Escape Hybrid Endures Commuter's Nightmare Road TestThe Ford Escape Hybrid (the first hybrid SUV) was run through a grueling "commuter's nightmare" road test at the New York International Vehicle Show. During the road test, the Ford Escape Hybrid averaged over 38 miles per gallon in a nonstop 37-hour drive in and around New York City.

The hybrid SUV started the test with one 15-gallon tank of gas. That one tank of fuel and a 330-volt electric battery kept the Ford Escape Hybrid running for 37 consecutive hours of city driving in the grueling urban congestion of Manhattan, for a total of 576 miles. The resulting fuel economy of the hybrid version of the Escape is a 75 percent improvement over the 20 mpg that the Environmental Protection Agency rates the conventional Ford Escape V-6 at.

An electric motor powered by a 330-volt nickel-metal battery pack and a conventional gas internal combustion engine are combined to run the Ford Escape Hybrid. When driving, the system chooses whether to use power from the electric motor or the gas engine, and when extra power is needed it will use both at the same time. Unlike some hybrid cars, the Ford Escape is capable of running on electric power exclusively, and at speeds up to 25 miles per hour. The system constantly evaluates how to maximize fuel economy, and will use the ideal combination of electric and gas power to achieve that.

The casual observer will be unable to tell the difference between the hybrid and conventional versions of the Escape as they look exactly the same, and in fact come off the same assembly line. The dash board even appears normal, though there's a battery level gauge, and the tachometer has a below-zero setting that indicates the vehicle is running in electric only mode.

In a midtown-Manhatten road test, the Ford Escape Hybrid performed at the same levels you would expect from a conventional SUV, despite the fact that it ran much of the test in electric-only mode. The gas engine kicked in smoothly when needed, and in electric-only mode the car is nearly silent.

When the gas engine is running, it also recharges the battery. Power generated by braking is also used to charge the battery (called regenerative braking). Despite common misconceptions, hybrid automobiles never have to be plugged in to an external electrical source for charging.

The Ford Escape Hybrid is a good option for those struggling to select between fuel economy and the comforts found in a SUV. You get the improved fuel economy and reduced emissions of a hybrid commuter vehicle, and also the 4WD performance of a conventional SUV with plenty of room for passengers, pets, and cargo.

How Hybrid Cars WorkMany consumers aren't satisfied to know that hybrid automobiles achieve excellent fuel economy and reduced emmissions, but also are also curious about how they work. Three primary components are integrated to make a hybrid: an internal combustion gas engine, an electric motor and a high-powered battery. A process called regenerative braking is used to capture energy and charge the battery. This is energy that would normally be lost during coasting or decelerating. The battery which is continuously recharged through this process provides power to the electric motor. If necessary, power from the gasoline engine might also be diverted to charge the battery. These charging strategies create an electrical power system that never needs to be plugged in to charge from an external source.

Those are the basics of hybrid cars in general. We will divide hybrids into two categories to examine further how the three components work together. Each category of hybrids incorporates the three components in its own way.

Mild Hybrids -
In the mild hybrid configuration the electric motor isn't able to function independently of the gas internal combustion engine. The vehicle is powered primarily by the gas engine, and the electric motor only provides supplemental power to assist when needed. The electric motor is capable of drawing energy from the battery or generating electricity to charge the battery, but it isn't capable of doing both at the same time. The Honda Civic and Insight are mild hybrid cars.

Full Hybrids -
Full hybrid cars integrate the three components in a way that grants the electric motor and the gas engine to operate independently of each other. For instance the electric motor is capable of operating on its own to provide light acceleration at low speeds. The gas engine then starts up and takes over at higher speeds. Both the electric motor and gas engine can operate in unison when more power is needed during hard acceleration, such as when climbing hills. Full hybrids are also able to draw energy from the battery and charge it at the same time. The Toyota Prius and Ford Escape are full hybrids.

Despite their differences, both types of hybrid vehicles achieve the goal of increased fuel economy and decreased emissions over standard gas or diesel powered vehicles.

History of the Hybrid CarThe history of the hybrid vehicle begins in 1899 when Ferdinand Porsche engineered the first successful hybrid-electric vehicle. Hobbyists have continued building hybrids since that time, but no major auto manufacturers put a hybrid automobile into mass production until late in the twentieth century. The widest utilization of hybrid technology during that interim period was actually in diesel-electric submarines. They essentially operate in the same manner as a hybrid car, however the goal in submarines was to economize oxygen rather than fuel. Submarines have since evolved to nuclear power though several nations still rely on diesel-electric technology.

The introduction of the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius in the 1990s marked the first true success of hybrid vehicle technology. Plug-in hybrid-electric cars were developed in the 2000s. The PHEVs can be recharged by plugging in to the electrical power grid, and for short trips can operate without conventional fuel. Renault released the firstr PHEV production model dubbed the Kangoo in 2003.

Since its release, the Prius has remained in high demand. Newer designs of hybrid automobiles are less expensive and look more like their conventional counterparts. The new hybrids often look and perform exactly as their gas-powered siblings, but deliver 50% better fuel efficiency. For instance, the Honda Civic Hybrid looks exactly like the gas version. But it gets 50 miles per gallon.

In 2004 the first hybrid SUV, the Ford Escape Hybrid was introduced. 2005 saw two new hybrid SUVs in the Toyota Highlander Hybrid and the Lexus RX 400h. Within the coming decade, Toyota has plans to add hybrid drivetrains to each model of vehicle it produces. Honda has also released the Accord Hybrid, and Nissan is planning a hybrid model of the Altima.

Hybrid vehicle registrations in the United States rose 25.8% between 2002 and 2003. California has the most hybrid cars registered. Toyota sold 306,862 hybrids between 1997 and November 2004. Honda sold 81,867 hybrids between 1999 and November 2004.

Plug-In Hybrid Cars: A Cheaper Alternative

Because of the constant increase in fuel prices, many people are now considering getting rid of their gas guzzling conventional automobile and are now purchasing a cheaper alternative. Some people purchase automobiles with smaller engines for fuel efficiency and some people are now thinking of purchasing the vehicle with the latest technology that enables them to cut fuel consumption by half.

These automobiles are called plug-in hybrid vehicles. With this car, you'll be able to cut fuel consumption by more than half by taking advantage of the hybrid technology that many car manufacturers are now integrating in their new car models. Although plug in hybrid vehicles have existed for quite some time now, it was only about a few years ago that it was released in the market.

Plug-in hybrid vehicles are vehicles that combine the gasoline energy and the electric energy to run or to propel the car. Plug-in hybrid vehicles will enable you to run your vehicle up to a hundred miles per gallon depending on the engine and the battery installed.

If you think that getting a good mileage per gallon is non existent, think again. With the technology being integrated by automobile manufacturers in their hybrid vehicles, it is now possible. This automobile has two engines to run your vehicle. One is the gasoline engine and the other is the electric motor. Just envision a automobile that has an extension cord that you can plug-in in your home electricity outlet to recharge. You do not even to worry about the cost of your electric bill because the recharging will just be equal to less than a dollar per gallon.

Just envision a vehicle that has two fuel sources. If one runs out, the car will still be able to run. You do not have to plug in your plug-in hybrid vehicle but if you do, your vehicle becomes an electric vehicle that will be able to run quietly, cleaner, cheaper and more efficient than conventional gasoline powered vehicles. You've to consider that the gasoline tanks are there for long driving purposes.

However, when you are only driving locally, you don't need to fill your automobile with gasoline. All you need to do is plug-in your automobile to your home's electric outlet and once it is fully charged, your car will be ready to go using the electric motor.

Imagine the savings that you can get with a plug-in hybrid car.

However, these things are not the only benefits that you can get with plug-in hybrid automobiles. You'll be shocked once you find out about the other benefits that you can get with a hybrid automobile. If you have a hybrid car, the service cost will tend to be lower because it is mainly electric.

Another great thing about plug-in hybrid automobiles is that it will be able to power your home in case of power outage. It can act as an electricity generator.

Recently, tax incentives have been imposed by the government to hybrid vehicle buyers. This means that as a buyer of a plug-in hybrid car, you'll be able to care about tax breaks.

You'll also help improve the condition of the environment because it runs on the cleanest energy source available, which is electricity. This means that the vehicle will produce no toxic emissions when it is running on electricity. Also, when it runs on gasoline, the emissions are also very low because of the small size of the gasoline engine.

These are some of the benefits that you can get with plug-in hybrid cars. So, if you think that you're spending too much on gasoline for your gas-guzzling conventional vehicle, you can begin saving money by getting a plug-in hybrid vehicle.

How do Hybrid Cars Get Such Great Gas Mileage? It's not by accident that many of the most fuel efficient cars for the 2005 model year were hybrid-electric cars (HEVs), also known as hybrid vehicles, or simply hybrids. Hybrid automobiles are built in a variety of configurations to reach different objectives. They combine an electric motor with the ideal features of the internal combustion engine and are capable of significant improvements of fuel economy without giving up performance or driving range. Some hybrids are also configured to supply power for power tools or other electrical devices.

Hybrid vehicles are powered primarily by an internal combustion engine, just like conventional vehicles. However, they also convert energy normally wasted during braking and coasting into electricity. This energy is stored in a battery until it is needed by the electric motor. Internal combustion engines are least efficient in low-speed driving conditions, and when hill climbing or accelerating. This is where the electric motor kicks in, by assisting the gasoline engine in these low-efficiency situations. Some hybrids also shut the engine off automatically when the car comes to a stop, and restart it when the driver steps on the accelerator. This prevents further waste of energy by idling the engine when stopped. Unlike cars that are solely electric powered, hybrid vehicles do not have to be recharged by plugging them into an external electrical source. All the energy the vehicle needs is provided by conventional gasoline and regenerative braking.

The Fantastic Use and Great Advantages of A Hybrid Car

The cost of fuel and the damage it brings to our environment has become very rampant, and because of that, hybrid cars are presently considered as very beneficial to the preservation of the environment. The reason behind this is that hybrid automobiles do not depend mainly on fuel for it to have power, but it also makes use of electricity that results to a smaller amount of fuel consumption and less emitted air pollution.

A hybrid vehicle combines an electric motor and gasoline engine to provide sufficient power to the vehicle with least fuel usage and fewer emissions. They're also far more fuel-efficient than purely gas-powered automobiles, and far more practical for each day use than purely electric-powered automobiles. Combining the two sources of power, a vehicle then is created that is relatively non-polluting and will lead to less fuel consumption which means it possesses enough power to have freeway speeds that does not need too much fuel, it is also great for the stop and go driving in traffic laden areas.

The hybrid vehicle was created due to the result of the demand and clamor to clean the environment from pollutions and for the need to rely less on fuel. To be able to recharge, plugging the hybrid into an electric outlet is not necessary. They charge themselves by means of power usually lost during coasting and braking and can also be charged by the car's gasoline engine.

It can offer more benefits than the usual regular gasoline engine type vehicles. Here's a list of the many advantages hybrid automobiles offers.

1. Pollution is less promoted

It is a fact that the continuous damage to our ozone layer is due to the greenhouse effect, and one of the factor that contributes to its damage is pollution in the air, in which perilous chemicals are transferred to the air, like carbon dioxide that are emitted by cars. The measure of carbon dioxide emitted by the hybrid vehicle is principally relative to the quantity of fuel it consumes; thus hybrid cars can completely be a contributing factor in lessening the advancement of global warming.

With the use of hybrid automobiles, fewer fuel is consumed because hybrid vehicle don't completely use gas in order to operate, it also makes use of electricity, a power source that doesn't bring any danger to the environment.

2. More mileage with less fuel consumption

The obvious advantage of hybrid vehicle is that it saves on gas. With the use of hybrid vehicles, you are able to save gas money because you do not need to buy gas after each long trip wherein you can go several miles consuming less fuel.

3. Hybrid cars can help lower your taxes

Tax rebates are given to hybrid automobiles buyers, so if you purchase a hybrid car your tax refunds can be withheld from your taxes and will provide you with additional savings.

4. Your money gains more value

A hybrid car can retain a higher resale value. If you ever want to trade or sell a previously owned hybrid automobile you can be sure that you will get more of what you paid for it.

5. Efficiency and performance are what defines Hybrid Vehicles

Hybrid automobiles have smaller engines than the regular gasoline cars since the power is obtained form two sources, so the smaller engines are closer to the normal power necessity of engines that will give an efficient performance.

6. "Hybrid automobile technology" is the greatest solution to today's increasing problem in vehicle air pollution

Hybrid cars uses lesser fuel and a groundbreaking technology that might avoid possible damages to the environment caused by the usual cars

Despite of many uses and advantages, there's one thing to be considered regarding the hybrid automobiles, its actual price in the market isn't yet that inexpensive to a lot of people, but it is an investment that'll pay a hundred fold.

Hybrid Cars Released In 2006: Choosing From the Ideal

Hybrid technology is now being integrated into vehicles to enable consumers, such as yourself, to save money on fuel. Hybrid cars are known to cut fuel consumption by more than half. With this kind of feature, people would really want to own a hybrid automobile. Although hybrid technology has been around for quite some time now, vehicle manufacturers have only just began to perfect the hybrid technology to be integrated in automobiles.

Just envision a vehicle that can run for up to 60 miles to a gallon of fuel. This kind of car is definitely the automobile of the future. Not only will it enable you to save a lot of money on fuel consumption, but it can also help in the protection of the environment. This is because hybrid vehicles are known to emit far lower levels of toxic fumes than conventional automobiles.

Hybrid automobiles have been around for quite some time now. However, for maximum fuel efficiency, new hybrid automobile models are now available in the market today. 2006 hybrid vehicle models are now available for purchase. These vehicles can let you effectively save money on fuel prices. Integrated with the latest in hybrid technology, these vehicles are far more efficient in fuel consumption and are far cleaner than the past hybrid automobiles existing in the market today.

However, there are already a lot of car manufacturers who are in the race to build the best hybrid car in the market. Consumers tend to be confused on which hybrid automobile they should buy. For this reason, you should know all about the different hybrid automobiles of 2006 available in the market today.

First of all, you need to know the concept behind hybrid automobiles. The concept of combining electric energy and gasoline engine to power a vehicle is what makes a hybrid automobile work. Even though electric automobiles have existed in the market for quite some time now, you've to consider the fact that hybrid automobiles are far more effective than electric cars. With hybrid cars, you no longer have to plug it in your power outlet in order to recharge the batteries. This is possible because it is able to recapture the lost energy when braking and coasting.

Toyota and Honda are two of the leading hybrid car manufacturers existing this day. Toyota developed the Toyota Prius that's able to operate in electric-mode only. This means that the car is able to operate even when the internal combustion engine is switched off. This will mean massive fuel savings when you're driving locally. Think of the gas engine as a backup when you are going on a long drive.

Chevrolet Silverado also developed the mybrid or mild hybrid. This particular pickup only stores a minimal amount of energy to the battery and it doesn't really provide much energy boost like the other hybrids existing in the market. However, Chevrolet's so-called mybrid pickup is perfect for camping where it can serve as a mobile generator for work or for camping.

With the constant increase in fuel prices, you have to anticipate that hybrid automobiles will be much more popular in the near future. You can also anticipate that hybrid automobiles of the future will be much better in conserving fuel and maximizing efficiency. Nissan will soon enter the hybrid car market as well as other big automobile manufacturers, such as General Motors, BMW, and DaimlerChrysler. So, you better be prepared to get rid of your old gas guzzling conventional car and get the latest hybrid vehicle in the market.
